Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) While Quasar is regarded nowadays as a US band, it originates from the UK, founded at a time when Pendragon & Co. started a musical movement now coined neo-prog. And that's exactly what the 1982 debut album sounds like. It owes its musical beauty to the amazing soundwriting skills of Keith Turner, deeply rootet in the confines of the genre, but never sounding like already heard a thousand times. The only drawback is the poor recording sound - the excessive reverb added to the vocals is annoying, and steady crackling tells that the files were probably ripped from a vinyl disc. Favorite track: U.F.O. a) Ufo.

Came to this band very late and I must confess only because they were playing various dates with one of my firm favs Kaprekar’s Constant so I thought I’d better take a listen to what they had on offer...and well I now have all three albums and a huge convert...so much so that the neighbours will get to know them too over the next few weeks...if you ever get a chance to watch them live...you are in for a big treat...they command the stage and the audience as their own... I was really surprised and happy to see that Steve Rothery had brought out a solo album. I was very impressed by the album itself, Steve Rothery's playing reminds me of some of the greats from people like Eric Clapton (Edge Of Darkness the original Series and Rush) along with Pink Floyd. He has managed to encapsulate styles of playing and merge them effortlessly and seamlessly, a feat that many have tried and few succeeded. leon-1
